One of the all-time great guitarists, Chet Atkins had a formidable technique and an utterly individual style that influenced generations of successive axeslingers. Atkins's chops were well in place in the early years of his career, as this superb five-disc box set attests. Beginning in 1946, the year he made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry, THE EARLY YEARS traces the first decade of Atkins' solo work.
Although he's generally associated with straight Nashville country (a sound he helped engineer as the go-to session hand), Atkins's solo recordings meld blues, jazz, ragtime, novelty songs and pop with the nimble twang of classic country.
